First holiday experience in the mountains!

Written by backtotrend

This summer we went on holiday to the mountains. A first experience for me !

Discovering Val Thorens

Val Thorens is one of the highest peaks in Europe with a maximum altitude of 3230 meters! The resort is part of the 3 Valleys, one of the largest ski areas in the world. After a few turns, we reached the station. Unobstructed view from the top, we can see the peaks, grass, rocks and even snow! Contrary to what I could have thought, it’s nice outside: about 23 ° C, which is rather pleasant! Even in summer, Val Thorens offers various activities (hiking, chair lifts, yoga, sports complex, various animations).

Le plan d’eau – Val Thorens

Very different from the crowded beaches in summer, the mountain welcomes all the same many visitors hiking, or simply enjoy nature and calm. No more pollution, you can really feel the clean air of the mountain! What I really enjoyed during this holiday was to wake up warm in bed without any noise and just with the whispers of the marmots. For the fans of the hike, there are nice walks to do (Val Thorens, Menuires or Saint Martin de Belleville). A total disconnection that allows to refocus on itself and enjoy small pleasures.

Summer activities

We left the week of August 15th in the mountains and was afraid that there was not much to do. Well I was really surprised by the number of people who spend their holidays in the mountains, but especially the proposed activities. Val Thorens is a little less lively than the Menuires or Saint Martin de Belleville, but we went walking near Montagne Aventure, a course that passes above the Plan de l’Eau. The place is magnificient : there are lakes and mountains side by side! At about 1 hour of walk you can discover the lake Lou, ideal place to picnic to contemplate the immensity.

We also enjoyed the entertainment offered at Val Thorens, Les Menuires and Saint Martin de Belleville (Festival of August 15 with the launch of straw boots, the braderie of craftsmen and markets).

Our accommodation was including a SPA, we were able to relax in the pools and jacuzzis.

Hotel Val Thorens – Le Hameau du Cachemire

Accommodation and hotels in Val Thorens are numerous and varied. So, small and big budgets will find shoes at their feet! Additional services (SPA, mini-market, fitness room …) are also available. It’s up to you to choose what fits your budget and suits you!

Here are two ideas of places to spend your holidays in Val Thorens.

If you prefer 4 stars hotel Val Thorens:

Hotel Val ThorensLe Hameau du Kashmir (Groupe Montagnettes): If you want to enjoy the comfort of a 4 stars hotel in the heart of the mountains, with quality services, I recommend you Le Hameau du Kashmir. Suitable for both adults and children, this Val Thorens hotel offers stunning mountain views. It also has a relaxation and fitness area.

If you are rather traditional:

Chalet of aspect hotel – The balconies of Val Thorens: In wood and in the typical aspect, the apartments of the balconies of Val Thorens are fully equipped (dishwasher, four …). A SPA is also available to hotel guests.

Fondue in La Chouette – Val Thorens

We are both fond of fondue, we won’t hide it … Which is rather good car it is a specialty of the region. We tasted several things with special advice: La Chouette. Even though the restaurant has a large deck, consider booking car inside with few seats. On the menu there are delicious fondues, pancakes and of course Savoyard specialties!

My last little advice in the mountains in summer, and especially in the 3 Vallées, is not to leave the week following that of August 15th because it is the end of the season and therefore there are less activities. Don’t forget your sunscreen!

And you, have you ever been in the mountains in summer? What places do you like?
